Story : Disney fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Ramie imagines the origins of the character of L. Frank Baum Wizard beloved. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking -that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), not sure it is the great wizard everyone's come to expect. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion transforms, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar himself, not only in the great wizard but also a better man. When a small-time magician pulls Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is one flimflam too much, it gets hurled themselves into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must transform himself into the way wizard and just maybe better man as well. - (C) Walt Disney
Suffers a bit 'of tonal incoherence and a punctured sense of wonder, the great and powerful Oz, but still packs enough spirit visual dazzle and smart to be fun in itself.
